Exhibition Overview

The InterBattery and xEV Trend Korea exhibitions were launched with caution in the COVID19 era. Safety precautions were strictly enforced and all visitors and exhibitors were required to sign in and had their temperature checked before entering the exhibit hall. There was also a limit to the number of participates allowed in the exhibition hall at the same time. Everyone was required to create a visitors' pass which was checked every time they entered and left the hall.

InterBattery and xEV Trend Korea both featured spontaneous events that promoted interesting trends and products for visitors and generated a larger buyer pool for the exhibitors.

InterBattery:

Compared to other recent exhibitions, the InterBattery had many visitors. This demonstrates the high level of interest in the battery industry.

There were a number of booths promoting foreign investment including Canada, Thailand, Czech Republic, Ohio and others.

The eye catchers were definitely the major players such as LG Energy Solutions, SK Innovation and Samsung SDI which not only had large booths but also attracted participants with events and information stations featuring new technologies and trends of EV Batteries.

Most of the InterBatter displays were focused on B2B products and services. In addition to the major players, there were various companies related to parts and services for the battery industry including materials, parts, equipment, logistics and testing equipment.

The rapid growth of the industry was further demonstrated by the many booths for job seekers.

xEV Trend Korea 2021

Unlike the InterBattery xEV Trend displayed more finished products that are more often seen by the public. Featured products included electrical vehicle chargers, electric cars, electric motorcycles, electric bikes.

Major EV manufacturers such as Hyundai, KIA and Daelim were attracting most of the visitors with the new releases.

There were many other EV companies that displayed their products.

Also, various types of EV chargers from a portable charger unit to charging stations were exhibiting their new designs and services.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government had a booth promoting its policies and future plans to for a better environment for EV users.

EV Industry in Korea

Korea does not produce a single drop of oil therefore the need for energy efficient vehicles and vehicles using alternative energy resources is an ongoing issue. As new, renewable energy technologies have become available, the government has begun promoting them.

Korea started EV development around 1988, the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute developed an EV prototype but it was not commercialized. The first EV in the market was KIA’s Ray EV launched in 2012. In 2013, Hyundai introduced the first hydrogen powered vehicle.  This was a result of the government's continuous investment and companies ongoing R&D.

The government started to promote environment friendly EVs in 2013 by providing financial support. The central government provides a subsidy of eight million KRW while the city government also provides five to eight million KRW. The registration tax is also exempt when purchasing an EV.

Korea EV industry has a great future. IRC Consulting will guide your way to successfully enter the Korean market.
